At Verde Aveda Salon and Spa Virginia Beach, we understand exactly how important taking care of your skin, hair, and nails is. As an Aveda Lifestyle salon and spa we also understand how important it is to be eco-friendly. Fortunately, since we specialize in all-natural, life, and earth friendly spa and salon treatments, we know tons of tips and tricks on how to stay looking fabulous without harming the environment. Our efforts to respect and preserve our earth are a big part of our every day. In honor of Aveda Earth Month we wanted to share a few tips for staying radiant while being environmentally friendly.

Here are 3 tips to look great, and feel great about doing it.

1. Read Labels Carefully.

Large Products like shampoo and body lotions, to smaller items like chap sticks and mascara, products can often contain chemicals or other harmful and dangerous ingredients. Additives such as parabens and phthalates, which have become very common, can be very toxic to your body and the environment. The more natural the ingredients you’re using are, the better it will be for you and the earth. It’s completely ok to be that person sitting in the middle of the aisle, reading the labels, but thankfully you dont have to. At Aveda we have done this work for you. The entire Aveda product line is made from a natural plant base, and is always created in ways that are sustainable for both people, and the environment.

2. Eco-Friendly Showers & Blow Drying.

A standard shower-head typically releases around 25 liters of water per minute, so taking shorter showers can help conserve a great amount of water by the end of the year. Another easy, earth friendly way to conserve water would be to take full body showers less frequently if possible. Now we’re not saying don’t hop in the shower after a hard work out, but after a lazy day lounging around the house utilizing an all-natural dry shampoo can help with keeping your hair clean and fresh without having to use water. Reducing the frequency you blow-dry your hair can also save a hefty amount electricity by the end of the year. Blow-drying less will not only be beneficial for the environment, but can also help protect your hair from damage and breakage.

3. Aveda’s Full-Circle Recycling Program.

Recycling paper and plastic beauty packaging is a total no-brainer, but do you know that Aveda offers a full circle recycling program. Any Aveda packaging not accepted curbside, such as makeup brushes, and various bottles, jars, tubes and pumps, can be brought into any Aveda Experience Center retail store in the United States and placed in the Full Circle recycling bin. Once full, the Full Circle recycling bin will be sent to Aveda’s recycling partner g2 revolution in Findlay, OH where items will be sorted by material category. All materials will be recycled, reused or burned for energy recovery – with the intention of utilizing collected material to create new Aveda packaging or accessories.
